Since its launch in 2025, OneMap, our collaborative mapping platform, has continued to demonstrate the value of shared data in supporting better decisions across the region’s social housing sector.
Developed through SHINE, OneMap brings together housing asset, community and environmental data into a single interactive platform, giving housing providers a shared view of homes, neighbourhoods and regional opportunities. Today, the platform contains information on more than 188,000 properties from 10 housing providers, covering 19 local authority areas across the North East, North Yorkshire and the Humber regions.
By combining housing data with wider datasets, including flood risk, climate information and community indicators, OneMap helps organisations move from isolated decision-making to a more collaborative, evidence-led approach.
Teams are using the platform to identify opportunities for joint working, better understand local challenges and target investment where it can have the greatest impact.
Supporting a regional approach to shared stores
One of the latest examples of OneMap in action comes through the North East Housing Partnership (NEHP) Home Quality and Investment workstream, which is using the platform to help shape a potential joint regional approach to stores management.
Using OneMap’s geographic intelligence, participating organisations have been able to analyse the distribution of housing stock, existing depot and merchant locations and travel patterns across the region. The insight is helping partners assess opportunities for a shared stores network that could support multiple housing providers.
By identifying the most effective locations for shared facilities, the project aims to reduce travel time and mileage for frontline operatives, to support improving efficiency and service delivery. The approach also has the potential to reduce carbon emissions and support a more sustainable operating model across the region.
Marc Edwards, Executive Director of Property at Gentoo Group, who’s leading the work on behalf of NEHP, said: “The shared stores project shows the real power of collaboration. Using OneMap, we’re able to see where a regional approach can create efficiencies that no single organisation could achieve alone. By reducing journeys and making better use of resources, we can deliver operational benefits for our organisations while creating more time and capacity to focus on what matters most: providing excellent services and outcomes for our customers.”
